About Me
As promised here are my reasons for choosing Shutter Close Photography.
Growing up and getting your "traditional" family photos done at the good ol' Wal-Mart is an memory that is burned into my head - my parents still have those photos to this day. Those forced smiles, the choice of 2 images out of the 6 that were taken; never perfect nor good enough and that every family member got at Christmas that you dreaded for years to come. Because of that, I take pride in capturing those real smiles; making you feel comfortable in front of the camera. I communicates and listens to your needs, concerns and wants; I even let kiddos do a silly photo.
I never recalled my parents taking photos of myself or siblings when we traveled or on our birthdays...it just wasn't something we did; we also didn't travel a lot. It wasn't until I was about 7 years old when I asked my mum for a camera; I learned there was a whole new world out there to explore. Growing up I was told I had a old soul; and I didn't have a clue of what it meant! As an adult now, I understand now and I see it in my photos!
I remember trying to get one of our German Shepherds, Missy, to sit on a stump so I could take a photo (it never worked) I recall pressing the shutter with excitement that I was going to have a still image after it spat itself out of the camera and I shook it like crazy, tucked it under my armpit to make it develop faster that I learned what set me apart from others. My excitement of having a still image, freezing time in place, a memory to hold forever is something I will never forget - even though it was a terrible image, I was proud of myself.
I grew up on a farm just East of High River AB; neighbors were into horses and farming which is typical. You could always find me feeding the horses or waiting in the field for a tractor ride. I bought my first horse when I was 18 years old...and than bought 2 more (their like potato chips, can't have just one) it was the best decision of my life. I joined gymkhana (my buckskin mare hated it)
I began taking photography seriously in 2011, Photographing friends, wildlife, pets and volunteering with animal rescue groups. In which I branded myself as "Jodie Hennigar Photography" because it was something easy; it wasn't until late 2018 that I changed my business name to Shutter Close Photography.
How did Shutter Close Photography get it's name? Well funny story; I was thinking about the mechanical parts of a camera no matter the era and thinking to myself. A photo isn't possible unless the shutter closes and right then and there a lightbulb went off and I told myself...that's the name, that is what I am going to call my company!
In 2017 I began volunteering with the Calgary Police Foundation photographing their social events which has been an amazing experience. In 2018 I was vetted with the Calgary Police Foundation.
In 2019 my husband and i welcomed our precious daughter into the world; the arrival of her is when I became more intrigued about Portrait Photography; she was the spark that I needed. Becoming a mum I feel that I can relate to every parent in a way. I understand that kids(s) are hard to contain for images, so let them run wild and lets capture them in their natural environment!
